Anyone play the bamboo flute? I purchased one about 5 years ago, but have recently started getting back inffit, and, don't ask me why, started getting interested in Celtic tunes. No, not drinking more than the usual [go] But here's my question: I play the recorder and can read music so have either been hunting on NLS or transcribing stuff for myself. But most online sites tell players !look in the mirror as beginners !check the embrechure. Any of you flute players? Presumably everyone gets the lip on the blowhole just right after awhile but what told you in the beginning? Also, are flute books / instruction written for the standard "Boehm" flute good for embrechure? Obviously the fingering charts are different, but just curious for help from any of you flute players out there. I still can't believe I've fallen for these Scottish and Irish folk songs. I'm a child ofthe eighties where stacked keyboards, hard and fast techno, and fusion Jazz were the order ofthe day. It's been a trip !start out on anyway.

Wow! I'm surprised. With the vast diversity and skill set on these boards I was sort of hoping to hear back from someone ... er ... in the know on this one. I have been working on it this weekend, though, doing what they recommend - pick up the flute and try and make quality tone come out, with the desired goal being to do it on first try rather than puffing / blowing around on the hole till I get it. Fingerings for the keyless flute (six holes) seems preetty easy being I'm a decent recorder player - can play in all keys and the two octaves (the three notes of the third octave are the hardest!)
Anyway, even if you play the standard, or classical flute, responses welcome.
